Our October book will focus on St. Oscar Romero, bishop and martyr, with his essential biography, Romero: A Life by James Brockman. A fantastic read from a modern and relevant Saint who stood with the poor of El Salvador and was killed while celebrating Mass for his witness to Christ and the poor.

The 10 Commandments reveal who God is and that they help us to know God and become like God. Join us as Fr. Dominic walks us through How the Commandments reveal the Father and connect to the New Law of Grace. Dinner to Follow this excellent talk!

Join us for All Saints Day (a holy day of obligation) for a solemn sung Mass in the evening at 7:00pm followed by a great SSPJ party down in the church hall. Bring some food and drink to enjoy a good time celebrating all our Saints!

Alexander Scriabin (1872-1915) and Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) effectively bore the standard of Russian romanticism, even in the shadow of the great Tchaikovsky. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is widely known as an unparalleled genius of classical humor and nobility. Join us on Friday, November 8th for a concert featuring the works of these three great composers. Our music director, Patrick Weikle, will be performing a set of Rachmaninoff piano miniatures, Scriabin’s 4th Sonata, and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major accompanied by string quintet.

Written between 1330 and 1332, Essays in Idleness is one of the most important works of medieval Japanese literature. Composed of brief essays, some no more than a few sentences long and ranging in focus from politics and ethics to nature and mythology, it marks the crystallization of a distinct Japanese principle: that beauty is to be celebrated, though it will ultimately perish. For an intriguing discussion of this book, Join Fr. Dominic for our next parish book club on Tuesday, Nov 12 at 7pm. Our discussion will especially highlight the areas of similarity and divergence between Buddist and Catholic philosophy.
